Not a lot going on

Well, actually there is, but it’s nothing very interesting. I wrote a press release last week for the book signing I’m doing next month, and in the author bio I wrote that I can “usually be found in her office, kitchen or garden.” That’s about the size of it lately. The tomatoes were late coming on with the cool summer, but now they’re in full force. I’ve also gotten a couple of mac daddy banana peppers and lots of green peppers.

I’ve been working on a new writing project in addition to getting “Sword And Scabbard” ready to publish. It’s historical fiction, currently unnamed, largely unformed, and potentially requiring a massive amount of research. Every time I write I think of a question, usually about some little detail. Instead of making a note and looking up the answers all at once, I stop what I’m doing to find the answer. I’m fairly certain that’s not the most efficient way to do it.

The finishing of the new bookcases is entirely in my hands now. The shelves are nearly painted, although I think I might have to get lumber for two additional shelves. I’m waiting to see how everything shakes out first; I can add those when I’m done with what I have. Because the shelves are not completely installed, and because I won’t decide until they are what exactly is going to go on them, there isn’t a room in my house that doesn’t have some kind of mess. I’m working like crazy but you can’t tell to look. Sometimes you have to make a mess to clean things up, but I’m starting to feel like I’m working against the tide. Oh, yeah, and I’m working extra shifts at The Day Job. You’d think that would be slowing progress on the house, but it’s not. If I have to leave the house for work, I seem to get more done when I’m here. Add that to the long list of reasons they’ll have to fire or bury me before I’ll quit my job! In addition to everything else, it’s a lot less expensive than renting space for a writing studio.
