Losing weight

I got my shorts out last weekend, and that’s when I remembered that I’d gotten rid of stuff last fall that didn’t fit. I was down to three pairs of shorts and three pairs of capris, of which one pair of shorts and two capris fit.

After a short bout of hysterics, I decided it was time to get serious about getting some weight off. I’m not overweight, but I am at the top end of my ideal weight and body fat measurements.

Bear in mind, I’ve been trying different weight loss methods for over a year. I’ve gone from doing nothing to cutting sweets and working out six days a week. I’m estimating that I was eating 1500-2000 calories a day. I didn’t lose or gain a pound, and I was very discouaged.

I decided to try the Sonoma Diet because I figured if nothing else I’d get some new recipes. I started on Tuesday, but I haven’t been following it strictly because this week the recipes were too high maintenance. I didn’t have time to shop, so I fudged with ingredients I already had. I’ve had Eric looking over my intake (he was a dietician in the AF for 15 years) to make sure I’m staying under my 1,100 calorie goal. (Sonoma doesn’t say you have to limit to 1,100 calories. So far I’ve lost four pounds. It doesn’t sound like much on the surface, but after two years of not losing any weight, I’m happy with it. I’m not happy enough to stay here; ten more pounds will put me back into almost all of my wardrobe.
Things I’ve discovered this week:

-Plain celery isn’t as yucky as I remember.
-Water helps me feel fuller.
-If I take little teeny bites, I can feel full on half the food. (I learned to eat fast in basic training, and that’s one habit that stuck with me.)
-Staying busy keeps my mind off my stomach.
-The ‘three bite’ rule is going to be my saving grace. (It’s a tip I picked up from the author of “French Women Don’t Get Fat” when she was on Oprah. If you crave something, eat three bites of it and stop.)
-Having an in-home dietician is a good thing!
